Cowboy Christmas in Bedford Virginia

The Leete Family Innkeepers enjoyed a Cowboy Christmas at Reba Farm Inn in Bedford Virginia.  This being the non-gorgeous time of the year in Virginia when everything is gone dormant, the leaves have all fallen away, and yet Virginia still took our breat
h away!   We highly recommend Reba Farm Inn's Saddle Soar Equitainment.

It is fun for beginners (aka city slickers or established riders).  The horses were well cared for, which was evidenced by the quality of the ride.  They were not tail to tail like you see at some horse riding outfits.  The horses seemed to enjoy being out on the mountains and paddocks as much as we did!

To get to Reba Farm Inn from The Claiborne House B&B it is a 40 minute drive  up Route 122 directly past Smith Mountain Lake to Bedford.   While in Bedford, please stop in and spend some quality time at The National D-Day Memorial.  Perhaps you have seen the movie "Saving Private Ryan?"

This award winning movie was taken from the NY Times bestseller "Bedford Boys."  This small southern town lost more boys per capita than any other in that war.    Click here for more details on this very special memorial.

Please visit Reba Farm Inn Saddle Soar Equitainment to book a trail ride or special event or give them a call at (888) 235-3574 or (540) 586-1906.   Tell Kathleen and Ron we sent you their way.  They are wonderful hosts and love horses and the great outdoors.   While we were there they had 38 horses, all were rescued horses.   A  2 1/2 hour trail ride is just $50.  You can also have an all day ride including  lunch for $115 (6 to 7 hours).  Ron mentioned steeple chase races and camps and all sorts of other special events coming in 2009.

For our special family Cowboy Christmas we rode for  2 1/2 hours up to the plateau where we decorated a Christmas tree with edible ornaments for wildlife, then back to the barn for a cowboy fire lunch.  We saw some beautiful scenery - even the clouds drifting past the Peaks of Otter was spectacular!

There were white tailed deer flouncing along and we even saw a flying squirrel shoot out and glide down from the top of a tree to a stump nearby.  Now that was something to see!

Click on any of the photos to see them larger.

We want guests to stay with us at The Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast as we are centrally located to all sorts of interesting sights of interest, this horse farm being one of  them!  D-Day Memorial being two of them, and Smith Mountain Lake on the way up or way back being three of them!

Please see our sites of interest page for things to see and do in this neck of the woods and keep your eyes posted on our BLOG for upcoming events.   We are the land between the lakes - Smith Mountain Lake to the North of us and Philpott Lake to the south.
