Meet Virginia - She'll Take Your Breath Away!

Fall is here! For those leaf peeping inclined now is the time get a peepin!

This gorgeous photo was taken by our neighbor Sean Pecor on his land in nearby Boones Mill Virginia. The mountain is called Cahas Mountain. He took this photo last October. He has some land for sale if you are interested in seeing this view on a regular basis - here is the link to his family Blog.

I would like to warn all leaf peepers that the BEST TIME to view the leaves in Blue Ridge Country is toward the END of October. We typically have a full house the first half of October then everybody goes home and the leaves turn to each other and say "Alrighty then, they are all gone, let's do our thang!"

Don't miss the PEAK SEASON on The Blue Ridge Parkway. The Blue Ridge Parkway has more leafy trees doing their thang than even Japan.
It is a sight to see! She really will take your breath away.

Be prepared - if we have an Indian Summer we will have warm beautiful blue sky days and cooler nights. Not too cool to sit on The Porch at The Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast and watch our sugar maples drop their leaves.

For those who want to tour The Blue Ridge Parkway - America's Favorite Drive on motorcycle - we want to make sure you know we have plenty of off-street paved private parking here at The Claiborne House B&B. Once you check in you can walk to three or four restaurants within one block.

Our all-time favorite being RED CLAY RESTAURANT which is located on our corner in an old red brick bank building. The atmosphere is lovely and the food even better!

John Kim the owner and head chef at Red Clay has graciousely given all Claiborne House guests a 10% discount card. We have had guests dine at Red Clay two or three times during one weekend stay at The Claiborne House, IT IS THAT GOOD!

See our Inn to Inn Recommendations page for a wonderful place to stay just 2 hrs north of us near The Blue Ridge Parkway in Waynesboro.

If you would like to stay a couple days in Franklin County and enjoy all this area has to offer - please see our Sites of Interest page. Also see our Suggested Itineraries.

So get out the GPS and hit the road Blue Ridge Style...Southern Comfort at it's best. There is nothing like October in Virginia!

FALL

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. ~Albert Camus

The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one autumnal face.
~John Donne

October's poplars are flaming torches lighting the way to winter. ~Nova Bair

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
~George Cooper

falling leaves
hide the path
so quietly
~John Bailey

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. ~Stanley Horowitz

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn. ~Elizabeth Lawrence
