The Discovery Channel premiered a new "reality" TV series called Moonshiners last night.
Since I live in Franklin County Virginia, officially designated as the "Wettest County in the World" I thought I better watch it, and sure enough it looked familiar.
a Franklin County blockader (different plates for crossing the state line)
Infamous Shooting Creek Road - can you guess where the name came from?
What a shock, not really, to see this Appalachian series is based in SW/Central Virginia! And what a not-shock to see the main character of the show "Tim" someone that is known in this area.

You can learn more about this show Moonshiners here on the Bourbonblog website. I better toss the trailer on here for your benefit, you might get a kick out of it!
Think the days of bootleggers, backwoods stills and "white lightning" are over? Not a chance. Meet Tim from Discovery's all-new series MOONSHINERS. Just like his forefathers have done for centuries, Tim makes moonshine in the mountains of southwest Virginia. And he's not the only one. It's a test of nerves and a battle of wills that, by season's end, could net a bootlegger a hefty profit. But it's not without risks. The lawmen don't take too kindly to moonshiners and will stop at nothing to put them behind bars.

Rocky Mount and Franklin County is the start of The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail. The first kiosk for this music trail is one block behind The Claiborne House B&B

Here is Tim Smith's website (see a photo where he portrays a moonshiner with still in our local Franklin County "Moonshine Express" here in Rocky Mount. (More here and here)

Franklin County, as it is told, was built on 90% moonshine money.
